College Fundraising
not for Parents!
By the time your
children have left high school and are off to college,
you will no doubt have been involved with way too many
fundraising events, so it may be a relief to learn that
once a student goes to college, any college fundraising
is typically undertaken by the students themselves.
That's right, you won't need to be involved, or if you
are it will most likely be in a reduced
roll!
College
fundraising is unlikely to be a campus wide event, but
more likely to be for a smaller sports team or for
sororities or fraternities, or other smaller groups. The
good news here is that for smaller groups the fundraising
expectations will be smaller too, as the funds needed to
run these programs will generally be
lower.
So what's a good
college fundraising event? Well, if you think about this
age group and what they love to eat, it is no surprise
that pizza fundraising is a huge success for these
groups. This can be arranged in a few different ways. You
can buy pizza cards at reduced value to sell at value
that still gives the purchaser a great deal, or it can be
for frozen pizzas or pizza mixes. Fir students the first
option is the best, as students do not always have
suitable cooking arrangements.
So, how much can
you make? Some of these pizza cards can be bought for $5,
sold at $10, and the purchaser is entitled to a number of
2 for 1 deals on their pizzas. This means that everyone
wins. The more cards you order the more you can make, up
to a whopping 90% if you buy enough
cards.
For students this
is a good fundraiser, as there are very few people who do
not eat pizza, so the cards can easily be sold. The main
disadvantage as far as I am concerned, is that you do
have to pay for the cards in advance, but usually by
credit card. If you have advertized in advance, then you
shouldn't have problems selling enough to make your money
back before your credit card monthly statement arrives
for you to pay!
The same kind of
college fundraising events exist for other foods too,
like sandwhich shops and diners cards, but I think most
college students would go for the pizza
deal!
